Instructions for Waving
Waving to your neighbors is a customary sign signaling that you are a welcome member of the place in which you are traveling to and from. Individuals have expressed this greeting in a myriad of ways from short gestures to exaggerated movements. This signal of acknowledgement and respect is especially important in smaller neighborhoods, towns, or rural areas. A wave is a sign that exhibits acceptance, belonging, and trust.
After studying and documenting a variety of waves used throughout the United States, these gestures have been illustrated and explained via diagram for individuals to practice and attempt. Waves range from frequently used to more rare, and all are acceptable forms to communicate with those in the community.
